History

The Boalsburg Apothecary was founded in 1980 by Donald and Anne Farber.  The pharmacy located in the Boalsburg Medical Building is a small professional pharmacy that focuses on working closely with area physicians to provide superior expertise and service for patients.

We earned the local reputation as the pharmacy that could handle the unusual prescription.  Don had the will and ability to find solutions for doctors and patients often relying on his compounding skills.

After Don’s premature death in 1995.  Anne continued operating the pharmacy with capable aid of Lynn Fotis.  Lynn had worked with Don for many years and was able to continue the level of service started by Don.

In 2001 Anne sold the pharmacy to Mark and Jean Doyle.  Mark is a pharmacist and owner of the McLanahan Drug Store in Centre Hall.  Mark and Jean have been involved in medical care in State College since 1971.

Wayne Foster came to Boalsburg Apothecary in 2001 about the time of the pharmacy sale to the Doyles. Wayne was the co-owner of another McLanahan Drug Store (N-Atherton Street) in State College and had worked with Mark since 1981. 

In 2002, the pharmacy joined PCCA (Professional Compounding Centers of America) an international association of pharmacies that enables the pharmacy to obtain supplies, equipment, formulas and technical support for compounding prescriptions.  PCCA has allowed our pharmacy to expand its compounding abilities and expertise.  We are the only pharmacy in Centre County with extensive compounding abilities.   

The many changes in the current healthcare landscape have proved to be challenging but our staff is determined to help our patients with all their prescription needs.  We welcome all ages and enjoy working with entire families including their pets.  Our goal is to work with you to understand your medications and their proper usage.
